Christmas Eve Reflection

There is physical rhythm in the world that always surprises me. For instance, some months are full of sunlight. I wake up in the morning to bright rays and I hang out on the beach until 10pm and it's still light. But it's not always like this. This morning...it was different. We are in the other part of the season. The season where things are most dark. I wake up in the morning and it's dark and by dinner time, it's dark again. The days are short and darkness crowds the light.

What an amazing season (at least for those in this part of the world) to celebrate the birth of Jesus. The one who we believe is the fulfillment of these words in Isaiah 9:2:

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.

and the One who declares these words to the entire world in John 8:12:

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

It's Christmas eve! The light is about to break into the darkness! Rejoice!

So tonight, when it gets dark early and tomorrow morning when you wake up and it's still dark...remember: we celebrate the coming of the king who brings his light into the world and into our lives!
