Disobeying God

The devil turns to the first human and says:

“You will not certainly die...For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3)

Samuel the prophet turns to Saul the king and says:


“...To obey is better than sacrifice,
   and to heed is better than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is like the sin of divination...” (1 Samuel 15)


Have you ever thought about disobedience this way?  


It's not simply about a mess up here and there.  It's not just an "oops, better luck next time" moment.  Disobedience is our attempt to be our own God....to run our own life.....to be in charge.  When I disobey God's word....it's like I'm saying to God, "You're not in charge.  I am.  You're not God.  I am."  


Serious stuff, right?  
There's no such thing as "a little sin".
