is spontaneous decision making and how important it is to squeeze adventure into your life. We are very planned people. Our calendar is full, weeks and months in advance. We live by a calendar! And yet, there is this category in our life which is unplanned and spontaneous — The mountains. Sometimes we don’t even know where we are going when we start driving. Our kids are so used to it now after all these years, sometimes they don’t even ask where we are going. They just pack their day-hiking kits, and put their hiking boots and clothes stacked neatly beside their bed and pile into the car whenever we decide to leave in the morning. In the last few weeks we have visited new locations like panorama point in Sequoia National Park, Jackass Lakes in the Sierra national Forrest, and a cool spot near Fish Camp just south of Yosemite. All of these were impromptu trips, squeezed into a half a day during a busy week. But like all adventures, we’ve learned that the destination is never as important as the journey. The time in the car, the time on the trail, and not really knowing where we’re going or how long we’ll hike, is always part of the joy we experience.
