Snowshoeing

Somebody recently asked us..."how do you guys get out so much...running, hiking, climbing, walks, etc....with a baby?" Our response: "Honestly, it's a bunch of effort getting out of the house. Sometimes, we get into the car and say "success"...just to remind ourselves to delight in the fact that we got out of the house! Sometimes, we're not sucessful and we have to say to eachother, "well, maybe another day". But here's the plain and simple truth regardless of how well we do at getting out of the house: We want to invite Elizabeth into our lives, into our rhythm, and expose her to each of natures seasons...the seasons we find multiple ways to enjoy. Getting out is a challenge...but a good challenge...and we think (actually, know, based on our own experience), a challenge that is always rewarded IN FULL."

Today we went back country snowshoeing with my parents (who are visiting from California) at Mount Seymour. We went to the first lake en route to dog mountain. It was really fun. Here are some pictures to remember the day.

getting ready to go...

chillin in poppy's (grandpa's) lap

snowshoed up...bundled nice and warm...let's go!

getting ready to feed Elizabeth. She slept the entire way...the trail puts her to sleep

good times with the fam...havin' lunch beside a beautiful frozen lake....

simply wonderful

So beautiful! I love hearing about your family and all the amazing ways you take full advantage of where you live. And I like the point you make about inviting Elizabeth into your rhythm because your values and loves will be come hers so naturally that way. You're exposing her to so much beauty and an appreciation of some of the coolest things in life. What great parents:)

Thanks Mackenzie! It's never too early to start exposing Elizabeth to the beauty of God's creation -- and we pray her own love for God and creation will develop from her adventures outdoors. :) We miss you and Mike, and look forward to Lawfest in August when you can all meet Elizabeth! Love you guys.

Joe and Heidi, you have found one of the essential "keys" to parenting....and so early!! It took us much longer. :) God has prepared you both so richly, I think in part because you both have been such careful listeners to Him. You continue to be such wonderful examples to us all.
