We've signed up to do an Ironman!

And since we've gotten some of the same questions from people....thought we'd answer some of the common questions, here.

How long is the Ironman distance?
An ironman triathlon is a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run, raced in that order and without a break. You have 17 hours to complete the total distance of 140.6 miles.

Why now?
Well, one thing we've both learned in our lives (the hard way) is that tomorrow is never guaranteed.  Would you agree?  It seems like a really big risk to wait on your dreams.  We have a really healthy perspective that one of us could die, get sick, our financial situation could drastically change, and life can change in an instant.  With this in mind, "now" seems like the perfect time!

It seems like a lot of training, how are you going to do that with the kids?
One of the things that we've learned over the last couple years of doing endurance sports with a family is that 1.  your family has to be supportive 2.  you have to be willing to have compromised workouts and missed workouts 3.  you have to get creative 4.  you have to be VERY scheduled and driven by that schedule 5.  you have to feel supported by your spouse.

What we've done since last October, when we started training is we do all the bike workouts inside on the trainer at home and we do all the runs (short and long) together pushing the kids in the jogger. For swimming, for example, this morning Joe went to the pool, really early, while Heidi got the kids dressed and then pushed them in the jogger to the pool and arrived as Joe finished.  Then Joe took the jogger and took the kids to the park and then on a run while Heidi jumped in the pool.  Creative chaos!

Are you scared?
Scared....no.  Nervous and really want to be able to stick to our training and finish the race....YES!

Are you going to keep climbing and skiing?
You know us.....right?  YES!  That's called cross training!

We are keeping a Vlog (video log) of our journey.  Here is Vlog #2.  Subscribe to our YouTube Channel (www.youtube.com/joeandheidiwhite) for our updates or check back here!

Thanks for your support, friends and blog readers! It means A LOT!
